Roki Sasaki shakes off spring training struggles, delivers satisfactory performance in season debut.

Roki Sasaki experienced a spring training he'd rather forget. Yet, the wonderful thing about spring training is that when it finishes, every player begins from scratch.

During spring training this year, Roki Sasaki encountered problems every time he pitched. He seemed more like the struggling starter from the season's outset than the dependable reliever from last postseason. However, the Dodgers remained confident that once this 24-year-old right-hander stepped onto the mound for meaningful games, he would find ways to handle batters and contribute sufficient innings.

Under the lights of Dodger Stadium, with the warm-up music "Bailalo Rocky" playing, Roki Sasaki appeared to keep that belief firmly in mind during his season debut against the Cleveland Guardians today. Although his control wavered occasionally, his overall performance showed more promise than any outing in spring training. Over four-plus innings, Sasaki recorded four strikeouts, two walks, allowed four hits, and surrendered one run.

Sasaki maintained consistent velocity throughout the game, with his four-seam fastball reaching up to 99.5 mph and averaging 97.6 mph. While the fastball didn't generate many swings and misses, his newly developed cutter and signature splitter helped him create several whiffs.

Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of Sasaki's season debut was his ability to limit damage. During spring training, the Dodgers frequently utilized the rule allowing pitchers to re-enter the game; in each of his four starts, Sasaki experienced at least one inning where control slipped away.

In the third inning today, the Guardians seemed poised to mount another rally against Sasaki. After retiring six of the first seven batters, Sasaki allowed a first-pitch double to Austin Hedges. Two batters later, Steven Kwan's double brought Hedges home. Sasaki then walked Chase DeLauter, but he struck out José Ramírez on three pitches and induced a flyout from Kyle Manzardo to escape the threat.

The start of the third inning mirrored those失控 innings from spring training, but unlike spring training, this time Sasaki successfully stabilized the situation.

Sasaki pitched into the fifth inning but exited after allowing a first-pitch single to Angel Martinez. Tanner Scott relieved him and stranded Martinez at third base, preserving Sasaki's final stats.
