On March 23 Beijing time, Durant has now firmly established himself among the elite scorers in history. He surpassed Michael Jordan on the all-time scoring list, reaching a milestone that very few players can achieve. Yet even with this accomplishment, Durant clearly states: statistics cannot define Jordan.

On his podcast, Durant explained why Jordan still stands above everyone else.

“Michael Jordan’s stature transcends basketball itself. I mean, no matter who surpasses him statistically or accumulates more accolades, it’s nearly impossible to replicate his feat of winning six championships in six Finals appearances with a perfect record. Even if you match him in any aspect, his influence on the sport and on popular culture remains unshakable.”

“As you said, through his dominant performances on the court, he already elevated himself above the game. Beyond that, his charisma and aura are unmatched by others. And all of this stems from his absolute dominance on the court.”

“I’ve mentioned in many interviews that he suffered a foot fracture early in his career and missed a year; after completing his second three‑peat, he took another three‑year break before returning at age 38.”

“So he could rightly say that he missed a lot of games himself. If he had played continuously, his personal stats would have been even more staggering. But as I’ve said, measuring Jordan goes far beyond numbers. Across all fields, no one can be compared to him.”

Durant admits that matching Jordan’s career achievements is extremely difficult. Winning six championships in six Finals appearances remains one of the hardest records to break in sports. Many have reached the Finals multiple times, but almost none have maintained a perfect record.

He also pointed out a frequently overlooked fact: Jordan missed a significant number of games during his career. He suffered a foot injury early on and announced retirement twice.
