Not unfounded! Another reporter confirms Warriors will pursue Kawhi and LeBron, possibly going all-in for championship next season.

On March 30 Beijing time, Warriors reporter Kawakami previously reported that the Golden State Warriors plan to aggressively pursue star players (James or Kawhi) during this offseason, aiming to strengthen the roster around star point guard Stephen Curry.

Renowned reporter Stein followed up with further confirmation of this news. Stein revealed that the Warriors pursued Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard before the trade deadline and "will explore this possibility again this summer." Stein also noted that if James leaves the Lakers in his 24th NBA season, the Warriors are viewed by rival teams as one of the few credible destinations.

A league insider told Stein: "This matter is not unfounded."

New York Post reporter Rollins reported last month that there is "a certain level of mutual interest" between James and the Warriors.

The 41-year-old James has not committed to playing in the 2026-27 season, but Rollins mentioned that he and Curry "hold deep mutual respect," leading outsiders to believe the Warriors genuinely have a chance to acquire him.

A trade sending Leonard to the Warriors, a division rival, would have been a massive headline at that time. However, Stein stated that the Warriors launched a very determined trade effort for Leonard near the final moments of the February 6 trade deadline. Yet, after the Clippers sent veteran center Ivica Zubac to the Pacers, it was widely believed Leonard was no longer tradable.

Before today's game against the Nuggets, the Warriors' record stands at 36 wins and 38 losses, placing them 10th in the Western Conference, essentially out of contention for this season's championship. The team may already be preparing for a busy offseason.

Stein also mentioned that Warriors head coach Kerr's contract expires after this season. Other reports indicate growing anticipation that the Warriors will re-sign veteran center Porzingis, acquired before the trade deadline and soon to become a free agent.

If the Warriors can acquire James or Leonard, they will undoubtedly return to the top tier of championship contenders next season.

Warriors reporter Marcus Thompson noted that league teams aren't necessarily worried about the Warriors winning another championship, but they do have concerns about the Warriors "aggressively strengthening and going all-in for a championship run" this offseason.
