Manchester United is said to be ready to lodge an official complaint with Howard Webb, the chief of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited, after the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
According to Daily Mail, Manchester United's football director Jason Wilcox is planning to send a formal complaint to Howard Webb, the head of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL). The "Red Devils" leadership believes that the incident where Amad was pulled down inside the penalty area merited a penalty, and they are also dissatisfied with the match having nine minutes of added time and wish to seek clarification.
The controversy stems from the draw between Bournemouth and Manchester United at Vitality Stadium. The visiting team twice took the lead thanks to a penalty by Bruno Fernandes and a goal from James Hill, but goals from Ryan Christie and Junior Kroupi allowed Bournemouth to secure a point.
The focal point of the match lies in the decisions made by referee Stuart Attwell. In the 67th minute, just before Bournemouth scored their first equalizing goal, Amad was pulled down by defender Adrien Truffert inside the penalty area. However, after consulting VAR, the referee still did not award Manchester United a penalty.
Conversely, the home team was awarded a penalty when Harry Maguire pulled down Evanilson inside the penalty area. The English defender received a direct red card for the offense of denying a clear scoring opportunity and will be suspended for one match.
After the match, Manager Michael Carrick expressed extreme frustration with these decisions. He stated that awarding a penalty for one incident while not doing so for a similar situation is "confusing" and "unacceptable." According to the English strategist, both incidents were clear fouls involving pulling, and at least one of the referee's decisions was incorrect.
Regarding the organizers, the Premier League has provided an explanation. For the incident involving Amad, VAR determined that the level of contact was insufficient to warrant a penalty. Meanwhile, Maguire's foul was assessed as a pulling action that denied a clear scoring opportunity, with no attempt to contest the ball, so the decision for a penalty and a red card was upheld.
Currently, Manchester United is ranked third in the Premier League standings after 31 rounds and will return to action on April 14 (Vietnam time), when they host Leeds at home.
