An unprecedented incident in English football has occurred, where a supporter was prosecuted for "tailgating" (clinging) to enter the stadium without a valid ticket.

Accordingly, Benjamin Bailey (27 years old) was arrested during the English League Cup final between Man City and Arsenal at Wembley Stadium. He is accused of exploiting a gap by closely following a ticket-holding spectator, bypassing the control system, and entering the venue illegally.

Notably, Bailey became the first person prosecuted under the new regulation, where "tailgating" is officially considered a criminal offense. If convicted, he could face a five-year stadium ban and a fine up to £1,000. Bailey is scheduled to appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court on May 1.

Not only Bailey, police also detained two other individuals involved in similar acts. This indicates that attempts to enter stadiums without tickets are not entirely eradicated, despite significantly strengthened control measures.

According to London police statistics, there were 20 arrests on the day of the final, a sharp decrease from the 91 cases in the previous season. Violations included public disorder, assault on emergency service personnel, and racially discriminatory behavior.

Another case was also arrested at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium suspected of "tailgating" during the Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest match. However, this individual was released on bail for investigative purposes.

The tightening of security regulations stems from costly lessons from the past, particularly the chaos at the UEFA Euro 2020 Final. At that time, thousands of fans flooded into Wembley without tickets, causing uncontrolled scenes and posing potential disaster risks.

An independent investigation report then indicated over 20 "near-fatal" situations, with approximately 2,000 people slipping through security. This incident compelled the UK government to swiftly refine the legal framework, first criminalizing ticketless stadium entry.

Security authorities affirm they will continue implementing stringent measures in the coming period, especially as summer hosts many major sporting events at Wembley. The primary goal is ensuring absolute safety for supporters and thoroughly preventing violations.

Benjamin Bailey's case serves as a stern warning to those intending to "circumvent the law" to enter football grounds. In the context of increasingly professional football and elevated security standards, any violation may come at a high cost.
