The World Football Federation (FIFA) has just announced the latest women's football rankings for March 2026. Accordingly, the Vietnamese women's national team dropped one spot to 37th in the world, but still firmly maintains its top position in the Southeast Asian region.
Although it continues to lead the region, the Vietnamese women's national team was deducted a significant number of points in this update. Specifically, the squad under coach Mai Duc Chung currently has 1,594 points, a decrease of 27 points compared to the previous ranking period. This decline follows a campaign that did not meet expectations at the 2026 Asian Cup Finals, where the Vietnamese women's team lost to Chinese Taipei and Japan. Nevertheless, the "red-shirt girls" still lead the region.
Philippines is the closest trailing team, rising 2 spots to 39th in the world with 1,566 points (+38). This is a notable advancement for the Southeast Asian representative after they secured their second qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup Finals.
In the chasing group, Thailand rose 1 spot to 52nd in the world with 1,477 points, while Myanmar maintained its position at 54th with 1,470 points. Malaysia is the only other team in the region that dropped in ranking, falling to 92nd with 1,218 points, a decrease of one spot.
The remaining Southeast Asian teams did not change their rankings. Indonesia stands at 106th with 1,177 points, Laos ranks 114th with 1,165 points, Cambodia stands at 117th with 1,146 points, Singapore ranks 152nd with 1,019 points, and Timor Leste stands at 157th with 965 points. Brunei currently still does not have a FIFA ranking.
At the Asian level, Japan is currently the women's national team with the highest position in the region, climbing to 5th in the world. Following are North Korea at 10th, and Australia at 15th. Notably, all three of these national teams have already secured qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup Finals.
On the global stage, Spain continues to hold the top FIFA ranking, while the United States and Germany respectively occupy the 2nd and 3rd positions.
