Malaysia national team head coach Peter Cklamovski stated that he might not be the one making the final decision regarding his future, as he prepares to use a young squad for the 2026 Asean Hyundai Cup.
With his contract set to expire at the end of 2026, the Australian strategist for the first time addressed the prolonged speculation about his future, which includes a one-year extension clause.
"Sometimes it's not my decision either. I love this country, my job, working with the players and the coaching staff. But I must focus on what I can control."
This is the first time Cklamovski has publicly acknowledged that his future depends on the national team's leadership, though he remains confident in the team's long-term plan.

Coach Peter Cklamovski Leaves Possibility Open for Long-Term Commitment to Malaysia Team
Despite receiving offers from clubs in Japan and China, Coach Cklamovski is awaiting a decision from the Malaysian Football Association leadership after the national team was eliminated from the 2027 Asian Cup qualification campaign.
"Regarding what we can control, people can judge whether that is a satisfactory outcome. We remained unbeaten in the actual matches we played. Rankings are completely beyond our control."
Malaysia has now dropped to 135th in the world from 121st on the FIFA rankings.
Cklamovski also confirmed that Malaysia may deploy a young squad at the Southeast Asian Championship taking place from July 24 to August 26.
"That is an option; I want to use this tournament as one for our future squad."
He mentioned that the tournament falls outside the FIFA calendar, during clubs' pre-season or early-season phases, making it difficult to call up key players.
Coach Cklamovski said the priority remains the inaugural FIFA Asean Cup in September, when Malaysia will have its strongest squad.
"That will be very exciting because all players will be available and there will be a title to compete for."
He stated Malaysia's ambition is oriented towards 2030, a vision extending beyond his own tenure.
"Whether I am still here or not, that 2030 dream must still be realized."
Coach Cklamovski emphasized that the immediate goal remains the Asian Cup qualification Group F match against the Vietnam national team on March 31.
