Thai football supporters expressed diverse sentiments following their U23 squad's triumph over Vietnam U23 during the second round of CFA Team China 2026.
Thailand U23 claimed their first victory in the CFA Team China 2026 tournament by defeating Vietnam U23 in the second match. This outcome not only propelled the team under coach Thawatchai Damrong-ongtrakul to the top of the standings, but also established a significant advantage in pursuit of the championship.
After the match, most Thai football fans displayed excitement over defeating their major regional rival in Southeast Asia.
The first commentator remarked: "The collective play was very good, this lineup is generally stable. The highlight today is that I really liked the passing sequences."
Meanwhile, some other supporters expressed dissatisfaction as the blue-shirted players repeatedly missed scoring opportunities against the opponent.
One person said: "Please practice finishing a bit more. There were chances that should have resulted in goals but were shot wide or too softly. I'm not an expert, but I still hope things could be better."
The second person responded: "Unable to finish into goals. There were situations where shots should have been taken but weren't. We had many opportunities, but lacked sharpness in the finishing phase."
Another person commented: "Perhaps they should try shooting from outside the penalty area more often. Opportunities were plentiful."
Thailand U23 started perfectly by breaking the deadlock right in the 25th second. From Thanakrit Chotimueangpak's shot, the ball touched a Vietnam U23 player's foot, leaving goalkeeper Cao Van Binh no chance to save.
In the following minutes, Vietnam U23 dominated the game by continuously holding possession and creating some coordinated situations. However, Van Thuan, Cong Phuong, and other stars couldn't convert them into goals. Meanwhile, Thailand U23 waited for counterattacks but didn't have many chances to approach the goal.
Entering the second half, Vietnam U23 made personnel adjustments as coach Dinh Hong Vinh introduced Quoc Anh and Minh Tam to refresh the gameplay. These changes helped the white-shirted team play more proactively in the initial minutes, seeking opportunities to approach the opponent's goal.
In the 50th minute, Vietnam U23 created a notable situation from a free kick at a considerable distance. Thai Ba Dat unleashed a powerful shot, sending the ball on an awkward trajectory, but unfortunately it narrowly missed the post, letting the chance to equalize slip away regretfully.
Shortly after, Thailand U23 responded with a coherent attacking combination in the 56th minute. The red-shirted players developed the ball quite rhythmically and nearly pierced Vietnam's defense, but a white-shirted defender timely retreated to clear the danger.
In the remaining minutes, Vietnam U23 pushed forward seeking an equalizer. However, despite having quality attacking players all present, Vietnam U23 couldn't once put the ball into the opponent's net.
Ultimately, Thailand U23 won 1-0 against Vietnam U23. This result placed Thailand U23 at the top with four points, while Vietnam U23 temporarily ranked bottom of the table, behind North Korea U23 and host China.
