Midfielder Paul Pogba shared on social media images from a training session wearing Argentina national team attire.
Recently, midfielder Paul Pogba appeared on social media training with a teammate in Argentina's kit. During his recovery from a muscle injury that caused him to miss most of Monaco's matches since early 2026, the French star wore La Albiceleste training gear as if he were a player called up under Lionel Scaloni. All this took place during a free training session at Barcelona's facilities, where he trained with Ansu Fati.
This is not the first time Pogba has shown affection for Argentina or its clubs. Years ago, while suspended by FIFA, he played football with friends in a River Plate jersey. Additionally, during the 2025 Club World Cup, he met Boca Juniors president Juan Roman Riquelme along with players Marcos Rojo and Edinson Cavani, who were former teammates, at the team's base.
This midfielder, who became the world's most expensive player in 2016 with a fee of 105 million euros, has been severely impacted by persistent injuries and sanctions, making a return to top form difficult.
Hope for participating in another World Cup nearly ended after the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision in October 2024, imposing a 18-month suspension following his positive testosterone test in a doping check while at Juventus. This decision reduced the ban from the four-year penalty issued by Italy's anti-doping tribunal earlier in February of the same year.
The case attracted significant attention not only due to Pogba's fame, but also because of his contract situation with Monaco, the club he joined in the summer of 2023 to regain his form. The contract was for two years, but executive Thiago Scuro stated there were special clauses that could shorten the commitment if recovery progress did not meet expectations before the upcoming transfer window.
At 33, Pogba has only played 30 official minutes for Monaco since his debut in late November, due to a left calf injury suffered in a training session. Currently, he has not been recalled while the team is competing for a European cup spot, but still trails PSG by 14 points.
A series of injuries and off-field issues have significantly limited the career of the World Cup champion, who helped eliminate the Argentina national team in the 2018 World Cup quarter-finals.
Pogba made 91 appearances for the French national team, scoring 11 goals, and was a key figure in the 2018 World Cup victory, scoring in the final against Croatia. His last match for Les Bleus was nearly four years ago, in a friendly against South Africa. A knee injury caused him to miss the 2022 World Cup, where France lost to Argentina in the final on penalties.
