Malaysian media warns home team about Vietnam's special strength

Malaysian media has shown significant apprehension regarding the upcoming clash with the Vietnam national team, in the context of both teams preparing to enter a match seen as the centerpiece of Group F in the 2027 Asian Cup qualification round.

In a recent article, The Star noted the Vietnam national team is returning with very high morale and can definitely create significant pressure on the Harimau Malaya defense. Particularly, the goalkeeper position is expected to face a highly challenging match under the offensive pressure from the visiting team.

According to assessments from local media, the return of striker Nguyễn Xuân Son is one of the factors requiring Malaysia to be especially vigilant. The naturalized forward is anticipated to significantly boost the Vietnam national team's attacking power in this highly awaited rematch.

Not only possessing a more formidable squad, the Vietnam national team also enters the match with strong motivation following what happened in the previous encounter. In the first leg held in Kuala Lumpur last year, Vietnam suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat. However, that result was later annulled, and coach Kim Sang Sik's team was awarded a 3-0 win due to Malaysia using an ineligible player.

The Star also emphasized that the Vietnam team has had a relatively impressive warm-up run before this confrontation. Recently, "The Golden Star Warriors" defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in an international friendly match at home. That result continues to help the red-shirted squad maintain confidence and a positive mental state ahead of the big match day.

In that context, Malaysia's goalkeepers are expected to face immense pressure. Goalkeeper Azri Ghani also admitted that the entire team needs to maintain maximum focus and be ready for any scenario.

“I have had the opportunity to play for Negri Sembilan, and that has boosted my spirit and motivation to keep striving,” Azri said.

“If given the chance, whether it's me, Haziq, or Syihan, we all hope to contribute and help the national team in the match against Vietnam. Whoever plays must be ready to fulfill their duty.”

The match between the Vietnam national team and the Malaysia national team will take place at 19:00 on March 31 at Thiên Trường Stadium (Ninh Bình).
