Vietnam officially sets off to participate in the Southeast Asian tournament

The Vietnam futsal team officially departs for Thailand to compete in the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship, aiming for the finals.

On the morning of March 30, the Vietnam futsal team officially departed for Thailand to participate in the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship. This is an important regional tournament where the coaching staff and players Coach Diego Giustozzi aims to advance deep, targeting the final match after previous results that did not meet expectations.

Before entering the tournament, the entire team underwent thorough preparation in Ho Chi Minh City with high-intensity training sessions combined with friendly matches to maintain ball feel and cohesion. The coaching staff particularly focused on refining the playing style and improving the ability to capitalize on opportunities in decisive situations.

The list of 15 players participating in this tournament shows few changes compared to the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship. However, a notable highlight is the return of goalkeeper Ho Van Y after 8 months of injury treatment, promising to bring stability to the team's goal. Additionally, several young players have been given opportunities to inject fresh energy into the squad.

At the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship held in Thailand from April 6 to 12, Vietnam is in Group A alongside opponents Myanmar, Timor-Leste, and host Thailand. According to assessments, Thailand remains the strongest opponent in this group and is also the top contender for the championship. The remaining spot is predicted to be a direct competition between Vietnam and Myanmar, especially as they face each right in the opening match.

Not stopping at the group stage, the coaching staff has also prepared scenarios for facing strong opponents like Indonesia or Australia in the semifinals. These are teams that have shown clear progress recently, requiring the Vietnam futsal team to maintain high concentration and stable performance.

With the goal of reaching the final, the Vietnam futsal team is expected to demonstrate determined competitive spirit and professional improvement. This tournament is not only an opportunity to compete for the title but also a crucial stepping stone in the process of rejuvenating the squad, aiming for long-term future objectives.
