Will Vietnam's national team return to My Dinh Stadium for AFF Cup 2026?

Vietnam's national team is likely to return to compete at My Dinh Stadium for matches in the AFF Cup 2026 campaign.

According to multiple sources, My Dinh National Stadium is likely to be chosen as the venue for Vietnam's home matches in the AFF Cup 2026.

In the group stage, Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will have two home matches, hosting Singapore on July 31 and Cambodia on August 7. If they advance further, My Dinh is expected to become a crucial stronghold helping the team aim to defend their championship title.

If this scenario becomes reality, Vietnam's national team will have its first return to the "fiery cauldron" My Dinh after nearly two years. The last time the "Golden Star Warriors" played an official match here was on September 10, 2024, when they lost 1-2 to Thailand in a friendly.

Since that time, Vietnam's national team has chosen various other stadiums to host matches. In AFF Cup 2024, Viet Tri Stadium became a solid base with four victories, including a 2-1 win over Thailand in the first leg of the final. Meanwhile, in the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, the team's home matches were held at Binh Duong and Thong Nhat Stadiums, where Vietnam defeated Laos and Nepal respectively.

Currently, My Dinh Stadium is undergoing comprehensive renovation of its pitch, starting from last September. The upgrade work includes removing the old base layer, reworking the soil layer at a depth of 40 to 50cm, replacing the base structure, and installing an automatic irrigation system. Throughout this period, the stadium has temporarily suspended all activities to facilitate the construction process.

Given the current progress, My Dinh can fully be ready to welcome back the national team and fans in the near future, marking the new appearance of one of Vietnam's top stadiums.
