This is precisely the shift in direction unfolding at Juventus. More than half a decade of wandering through ineffective projects has damaged the image of Italy's biggest club, and they need to return to prominence immediately, as soon as possible.
Juventus is facing significant difficulties in the race for a Top 4 spot in Serie A. That is an extremely crucial objective for their future plans, but at this moment, Juve seems to have decided that regardless of securing a Champions League ticket, they must still take action.
Following Spalletti's Path
Juventus does not necessarily need to secure a Champions League spot to keep Luciano Spalletti. According to Italian media, both sides are negotiating details of a contract lasting until 2028. This is a very strong message affirming the leadership's stance. Club owner John Elkann has publicly praised Spalletti, emphasizing that he has brought new energy and a winning mentality to the team. At Juventus, such a declaration holds more value than any press release.
What Spalletti has achieved for Juventus in just five months of leadership is considered particularly valuable. The results may not yet meet expectations and might not achieve their target for this season, but the transformation in spirit, philosophy, and identity he has brought is what Juve needs for direction and future building. Starting from Andrea Pirlo in 2020, Max Allegri from 2021-2024, then Thiago Motta and Igor Tudor, Juventus has tasted too many failures due to unrealistic projects, plans, and hasty decisions. Spalletti, with his experience and clear philosophy, is seen as the anchor Juve especially needs now to stabilize and avoid drifting further.
Committing to Spalletti also means Juve will implement the plans he proposes. This strategist wants to add at least three players of caliber, experience, and winning habits. They would be leaders, guides, and mental pillars that Juve currently lacks greatly. At Juve's Continassa training center, three names being mentioned are goalkeeper Alisson Becker, creative midfielder Bernardo Silva, and striker Robert Lewandowski, with the latter two potentially joining as free transfers.

Juventus's Dream Attack: Lewandowski, Vlahovic, Muani, and Yildiz
Spalletti's viewpoint is very clear: He needs to build a team capable of achieving success in the short term. This is crucial for restoring player morale and Juventus's image. Juve's leadership also understands this after years of decline and meaningless experiments. They need a trophy, akin to the 2012 Scudetto that opened nine years of dominance in Calcio, as a foundation.
"The Lewandowski "Special Operation"
Among the three names mentioned, Lewandowski is the number one target Juventus wants to focus on conquering. The Polish striker possesses all the talent, composure, experience, leadership qualities, and winning habits that Spalletti desires. His age (37) is a concern, but consider the examples of Luka Modric, revitalizing Milan at 40, or Olivier Giroud, helping Milan win the Scudetto at 36. Lewandowski remains energetic and could certainly perform at a top level for another 2-3 years, perfectly meeting Juventus's needs.
The efforts Juve is making to bring Lewandowski to the Allianz Stadium can be seen as a "special operation." They maintain regular contact with his agent, assign scouts to monitor him in the Champions League and World Cup qualifiers, and even enlist former goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, Lewandowski's current teammate at Barcelona, for additional persuasion. Juventus knows they are not alone in this race, as Milan, Roma, Manchester United, and Middle Eastern billionaires are also planning.
Juve needs Lewandowski to rebuild a forward line that knows how to score. Jonathan David and Lois Openda, deals lacking calculation and not fitting Spalletti's requirements, are certainly no longer in the plan. Keeping Dusan Vlahovic is prioritized at the moment to save costs, while Randal Kolo Muani is still seen as a useful target due to his successful stint here in the latter half of last season.
Lewandowski - Vlahovic - Kolo Muani is precisely the dream attack Juve wants to see from next season. The shortest among them is also 1.87m tall (Muani), roughly 10cm taller than David (1.78m) and Openda (1.75m). The physical aspect alone represents a significant upgrade. Juve will do everything possible to turn that dream into reality.
Swap Thuram for Ugarte?
Alongside the goal of strengthening the attack with Lewandowski and Kolo Muani, Juventus is also focusing on bolstering the midfield, an area that has been problematic for many years. The target is Manuel Ugarte, a central midfielder out of favor at Manchester United but still crucial for Uruguay's national team. Juve has sent personnel to observe Ugarte during the ongoing FIFA Days friendly matches and may act in the coming weeks.
To acquire Ugarte, Juve might also allow Khephren Thuram to move in the opposite direction, naturally at a fair price. If Juve fails to secure a Champions League spot, the younger Thuram brother could be sold to balance finances. Manchester United and Liverpool are among the clubs interested in this French midfielder.
