Reviewing the seeded players eliminated in the second round of the Miami Masters: De Minaur and Shelton among them

The second ATP 1000 Masters tournament of 2026—the Miami Masters—has concluded its second round. This round featured 32 players who advanced from the first round facing off against the 32 seeded players. The seeded players enjoyed a bye in the first round, so the second round was their opening match.

Among the top 8 seeds, two players suffered unexpected defeats.

In the lower half of the draw, the biggest upset was the elimination of 5th seed De Minaur in his first match.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has been struggling with poor form, secured a straight-sets victory with scores of 6-3/7-6(3) over5th seed Alex de Minaur. This outcome was quite surprising. However, De Minaur's form has been subpar since his first-round exit in Acapulco in February. He only managed one win in Indian Wells, losing in the third round to Norrie. Since October 2024, he has consistently remained in the Top 10. His result at last year's Miami Masters was reaching the quarterfinals.

Following Novak Djokovic's withdrawal from Miami, the ninth-rankedBen Shelton had the opportunity to compete as the 8th seed. This meant that in the draw, he would not face any Top 8 seeded players until the quarterfinals. This position offered a significant advantage over players seeded 9-16. Unexpectedly, Shelton was eliminated in his opening match. Shevchenko defeated Shelton with scores of 6-7(3)/7-6(3)/6-3!

Five players seeded 9-16 were eliminated:

Upper half:

10th seed Bubliklost to Berrettini. Berrettini seems to have set an example for Tsitsipas, also overcoming a prolonged slump by eliminating a top seed a day earlier. Scores: 6-4/6-4.

Let's see who can advance further in Miami compared to Tsitsipas.
