WTA Miami Open: Gauff becomes the "three-set queen", semifinals to face Muchova

On March 24 local time, the two quarterfinal spots in the women's singles lower half of the WTA1000 Miami Open were determined. Third seed Coco Gauff battled for 2 hours and 15 minutes, defeating twelfth seed Belinda Bencic 6-3/1-6/6-3, setting a new personal best tournament result and playing three sets in all four consecutive rounds. This victory was a timely boost for Gauff, as she had not yet achieved notable results in major tournaments this season. Despite withdrawing due to injury in the third round at Indian Wells, she quickly regrouped in Miami and regained her form.

Gauff will face thirteenth seed Karolina Muchova in the semifinals. Muchova eliminated tenth seed Anastasia Myskina 7-5/7-6(5), achieving a "double victory" over her opponent since Doha and also reaching the Miami semifinals for the first time. However, in the previous five encounters between Gauff and Muchova, the American has won all matches, with the most recent meeting being in the fourth round of this year's Australian Open. If Gauff wins one more match to advance to the final, her world ranking will surpass Iga Swiatek next week, returning to world number three.

Schedule for March 26

Tomorrow's schedule will feature two women's singles quarterfinals from the upper half and two men's singles quarterfinals from the upper half. The pair Zhang Shuai / Elise Mertens will face Pegula / Hunter, aiming for a spot in the women's doubles semifinals.
