WTA Miami: Sabalenka wins the 17th "Sabalenka-Rybakina" showdown, faces "fully revived" Gauff in the final

On March 27 Beijing time, the lineup for the WTA1000 Miami women's singles final was determined. Sabalenka and Gauff each defeated formidable opponents and will meet for their 13th encounter in the championship match two days later.

In a highly anticipated clash between the world's top two players, Sabalenka defeated Rybakina 6-4, 6-3, achieving a "double defeat" of her opponent in this year's Sunshine Double. She has now reached the finals of Indian Wells and Miami consecutively for the second year, standing just one win away from defending her title and claiming the Sunshine Double crown! Sabalenka has reached the finals in all four tournaments she has participated in this season, with a record of 22 wins and 1 loss (Brisbane champion, Australian Open runner-up, Indian Wells champion).

This was the third meeting between Sabalenka and Rybakina this year. Compared to the previous two closely contested three-set battles, Sabalenka largely dominated today's match. She secured the first set 6-4 with breaks in the fourth and tenth games. In the second set, she even surged to a 4-0 lead. Despite Rybakina's attempted comeback late in the match, Sabalenka consistently controlled the pace, ultimately winning the 17th "Sabalenka-Rybakina duel".

Sabalenka expressed after the match that she enjoys competing against Rybakina: "She is an incredible player who always pushes me to my limits. To face her, I must bring my best level, so I played such excellent tennis today and performed well in every aspect. I am proud of this victory. Every match between us is a test of both physical and mental strength."

Sabalenka's final opponent will be fourth seed Coco Gauff. Looking ahead to the championship match, she said: "There will definitely be many rallies and emotional ups and downs. It will be a fun and tough battle. I am really looking forward to facing her again in the final."

Gauff delivered a near-perfect performance in the semifinal, defeating 13th seed Muchova 6-1, 6-1, marking her first career entry into the Miami final. This is her sixth appearance in a WTA1000-level final, and she currently holds a perfect 6-0 record against this Czech opponent. Prior to this, Gauff had struggled to produce standout results in major tournaments this season, even falling in the third round of Indian Wells due to injury. She finally found a turnaround in Miami, signaling a resurgence in her form.

"I've had some tough matches this year, but it's better than last year," Gauff stated post-match. "I think it comes from my continuous growth. I can feel myself improving, especially with my forehand. I'm satisfied with my overall performance in this tournament. I mentioned earlier that my training form was good and I was waiting for the moment to break out. Although it hasn't fully happened yet, it's gradually starting to happen."
