Carlos Alcaraz is the reigning Monte Carlo champion after defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the 2025 final.
The current world number one in tennis – Carlos Alcaraz has landed in a favorable section of the ATP 1000 Monte Carlo Masters 2026, which kicks off next week.
As the tournament's top seed, Alcaraz is exempt from playing the first round. Fans are eagerly anticipating a showdown between Carlitos and the former Grand Slam champion – Stanislas Wawrinka in the second round, but "Stan The Man" first needs to overcome the tough challenge posed by Sebastian Baez.
Potential opponents for Alcaraz in the third round could be Frances Tiafoe, Grigor Dimitrov, Terence Atmane or Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Among these, Etcheverry, with his clay-court prowess, is rated significantly higher; Dimitrov is aging, Tiafoe is advancing deep at ATP Houston and may not be fully committed to Monte Carlo, while Atmane is not ideally suited to the slow court speed here.
In the quarterfinals, the world's top-ranked player will face Alexander Bublik, Jiri Lehecka, Tallon Griekspoor or Alejandro Tabilo. The biggest threat in Carlitos' bracket will be Lorenzo Musetti - his vanquished opponent in the Monte Carlo 2025 final or Alex De Minaur.
Given that De Minaur consistently struggles against top-10 opponents, and Musetti is not at his peak physical condition, this presents an ideal opportunity for Carlos Alcaraz to smoothly advance to the final match, determined to defend his crown.
After halting his run at the Miami Open with a three-set loss to Sebastian Korda, Alcaraz immediately returned home to regain his spirit and fitness before training sessions in Murcia. Recently, the 22-year-old player had a crucial practice match with young compatriot star Martin Landaluce – who caused a "earthquake" in Miami by reaching the quarterfinals as world number 151.
