Nadal personally guides Swiatek's training and recommends a key team member to her.

Former world number one Swiatek is training with 22-time Grand Slam champion Nadal at the Rafa Nadal Academy, aiming to find her peak form before the European clay season starts.

Swiatek's season began with fluctuating results, being stopped in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, Dubai Open, and Indian Wells Open. Even with these competitive struggles, she persisted and played at the Miami Open.

In her first-round match at Hard Rock Stadium against Polish compatriot Linette, Swiatek lost in a tight three-set battle, resulting in an unexpected exit. Following this surprising defeat, Swiatek ended her coaching partnership with Wim Fissette.

Speculation circulated about who would succeed Fissette. After weeks of rumors and discussion, Swiatek ultimately chose to collaborate with Nadal and Francisco Roig, the former coach of Raducanu.

Accompanied by Roig, Swiatek is undergoing intensive training at the Rafa Nadal Academy. Social media footage shows the four-time French Open champion exchanging tips with Nadal and refining her stroke technique.

Roig previously assisted Nadal in winning 16 of his 22 Grand Slam titles. The 58-year-old Spanish coach became Raducanu's ninth coach after her 2021 US Open victory; their brief partnership ended after Raducanu's second-round exit at the Australian Open. Notably, before coaching Raducanu, Roig also guided former world number six Matteo Berrettini.

Two months after parting ways with British player Raducanu, Roig will coach 2025 Wimbledon champion Swiatek. Her former coach Fissette helped Swiatek secure several major honors during their 17-month collaboration, during which the Polish star won Wimbledon, the Cincinnati Open, and the Korea Open.

Roig, who has joined Swiatek's coaching team, was a respected doubles specialist during his playing career. Roig turned professional in 1987; according to ATP records, his doubles record was 197 wins and 173 losses, and his singles record was 64 wins and 96 losses.

He partnered with Thomas Carbonell to win 7 doubles titles and reached 8 runner-up finishes. Throughout his career, he claimed 9 titles overall, reached 21 doubles finals, and retired in 2001. After retirement, Roig joined Nadal's team in 2005, contributing to his dominance in tennis.

Now, Roig faces a new challenge: helping Swiatek return to the top. Swiatek has skipped the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier against Ukraine to focus on high-quality training and prepare for upcoming tournaments.Source: Tennis Home Author: Spark
